The last 10 photos of the pieces featured in this blog post were part of an organised event to brighten up the Sheffield Antiques Quarter, the vision was the brainchild of Hendrika Stevens with a little (a lot) help from Kisk (Smashproof), coordinating artists. I wasn’t able to go on the day, but many others did. The event was such a success, they are doing it again in September this year.

Goodnight Mr Heathcote

Once upon a time there was a woman who made an amazing discovery ( to her)… 0f an artist called Phlegm… and the rest, as they say, is history…

A very important part of that history evolves around one building A. R.Heathcote… ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†DSCF1628my first urbex….. . ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†DSCF6347¬†my first hidden Phlegm and Rocket01… ¬† ¬† ¬†DSCF6323my first Fauna… ¬† ¬† ¬†DSCF6333It could even be Phlegms first painting spot, got to be a very early one¬†anyway.

DSCF6197Kid Acne was quite a regular visitor too.

DSCF3346But Phlegm was the busiest I think.

DSCF6641More artists began to visit the site, Perms went large.

DSCF7455The Phlegm and Rocket wall was painted over, initially with a Kid Acne x EMA x Drot collab ¬†(there were tears, I can tell you!) and then this appeared by… mmm ..I wonder…

DSCF6640Dscreet painted one of his signature owls, I was quite giddy about this.

DSCF2554Absolutely loved this, it was ages before I knew who did it, Jay Sharples.

DSCF2552Mr Wolf, used to be all over the place.

It was a nightmare going through photos for this, my biggest ever post, I’ll be bound to have put someone out and I apologise for that. I have 6 years of photos from this place, literally thousands. I really had a connection with it, rats, crack heads and all, and I am gutted at it’s loss.

DSCF3452  DSCF3558

I haven’t included pics from the boards or the Niche wall, they’re worthy of a post on their own though, if anyone’s interested.

Below is a link that tells you about the industrial history of Heathcotes, includes pre-graffiti pics http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/a-r-heathcote-cutlers-sheffield.t21572

Sleeep well Mr Heathcote, I for one will miss you.

Bristol part Deux

DSCF7113Apologies in advance for not knowing who most of the artists are in this post. While Bristol is synonymous with Streetart, there is also lots of top quality graffiti, to say the scene is thriving is a bit of an understatement.DSCF7182This tunnel gets a very regular makeover, visited on Thursday, all painted over on Saturday.DSCF7675I do like stickers paste ups and slaps, saw a fair amount of these Loqui the Roman…DSCF7719…and lots of Angryface stickers too, so much so I’m beginning to wonder if he’s relocated.DSCF8190There seems to be little time or interest in having beef here, nothing stays around long enough.DSCF8193One, of many from the Hall of Fame.DSCF8200I’m sure there’s a story behind this…DSCF7939Sled One fantastic wall at the Deaner, gone within a week of me taking this photo I think.¬†DSCF8014Love this little guy!DSCF8115Oky and ?DSCF8119Trust me, I wept, still not fluent in reading letters ūüôĀDSCF8121¬†3SoakDSCF8156Ziner,one of my (many) favourite pieces from the day.DSCF8166As was this…DSCF7332And this. passed this piece in the morning and due to the traffic, struggled to get a decent shot of it, this will have to do, by the time we came back to it, it had gone!DSCF7461Saw quite a bit of work from this artist Aspire, really like it.DSCF7957Last but by no means least, this gorgeous Raven By Shab, whose help was invaluable in enabling us to find our way around and get to see as much as we did in the time that we had.

Bristol, you were awesome, I do hope I get to visit you again!

Roadtrippin’

DSCF1732Been on a few road trips recently 2 to a place I’d been before and a third to a new (to me) spot and I went with a few friends this time. Found this Boaster piece, wish I’d seen it intact.

DSCF1736Somehow I managed to miss this magnificent Tekonta Secta piece on my first visit.

DSCF1811Love this wall and the reflection made my day.

DSCF1879Fancy seeing him here, he looks surprised to see me too!

DSCF2433Felt very privileged to watch Fauna Graphic work, and I witnessed her near death experience when some slates from the roof decided to relocate themselves to the inside of the building exactly where she was painting! Dangerous business this sometimes.

DSCF2461The finished piece ‘Nature Nurse’, a great new character I hope to see again.

DSCF2441A dark piece by CoLor at the entrance of a rather strange tunnel.

DSCF2542Foundry was practising a piece for an upcoming huge wall project in Wolverhampton.

DSCF2574Fauna and Color collaboration, Meerkats and a Great Tit, accompanied by a strange chap in a mask, obviously. Favourite shot of that day, when asked if I wanted to see the mask, this was totally not what I expected.

DSCF3208I’d love to know who did this, there’s no sign of a name on it, I like it, a lot.

DSCF3248Fame kills, apparently, set up for  a model shoot perhaps?

DSCF3370I spy with my little eye…

DSCF3377Him again!

DSCF3380Color and Nymph, good to watch her style and confidence improving with each piece she does.

Hopefully will be revisiting these places soon, can’t wait to see what’s new!

More Much More

DSCF7666Boms is unstoppable at the moment, constantly pushing the boundaries. Notice the Bine below it as well, looking good.

DSCF7441CoLor, always the innovator created this lovely character, I call him Tanked Up!

DSCF7654He also created this awesome face from 2 foot baths(?) Due to the sunlight  at the time of my visit, I had to make him a visor from poystyrene sheets. I think it worked well.

DSCF7613Nameless Nat as she will be known for the time being, produced her own take on the Disney legend Mickey, her largest piece so far.

DSCF7539I love this Scream piece too, the nameless one definitely has a style of her own.

DSCF7495Emit is moving up a gear, his character pieces are looking really good.

DSCF7533Some is a real wizard with colour, amazing.

DSCF7703Oh and did I mention Mr Angryface has been again, both of him!

Yes we’ve got it all going on at the moment.

It’s becoming a very popular pastime this graffiti hunting lark. Still not sure what I think to wandering around a derelict building and bumping into at least a dozen other people, a sign of the times I suppose.

Visitors

DSCF6899I discovered this by chance and I was very excited by it. I knew I had seen something similar in Manchester. It’s an artist called Sneak¬†http://www.sneak-art.co.uk/ and he had paid Sheffield a visit.

DSCF6903This was the first one to be destroyed/ removed/ disappeared.

DSCF6905I got some strange looks off early morning motorists getting a shot of this I can tell you, as I stood somewhat unsteadily on a wall at the side of a busy dual carriageway.

DSCF6910 A friend of mine told me where this one was, I was searching in the usual graffiti spots and this was not in one.

DSCF6962AngryFace http://www.facebook.com/AngryFaceGraffitifref=ts had also paid us a visit. Although he had been previously with pasteups and stickers, this time he came equipped with paint!

DSCF7128¬†I’m very fond of AngryFace, he makes me smile, he’s a wonderful stress¬†reliever.

DSCF7199Who couldn’t love a face like that ?

I think it says a lot about the way the graff/streetart scene in the city is viewed nationally, that artists and writers will travel to Sheffield because they want there work to be seen here.

And finally, even though it’s freezing and the weather is lousy, spring is coming, the clocks go forward at the weekend and Mr Angry Rabbit wishes you all a Happy F*****g Easter!

City Roundup

Bit of a mishmash this one of random shots and spots from the rather large, like this spectacular huge Booms piece….

…To this little Angry Face which is less than 3″x 3″. I’m very fond of the one with the Angry Face, he’s literally run through Sheffield with his angular buddy….

… the wonderfully anarchistic Lisk Bot whose appliance looking type Robots are apparently working on world domination.

Not so much world domination, but Mr Wolf is still taking over the city one wall at a time.

Mila Ks’ beautiful character is going through a short lived blue phase.

This is a close up of a peacock by Fauna Graphic. The whole piece is wonderful which I think is clear when just one part of it looks so stunning.

I’ve started to notice that my graffiti walks are getting longer, there seems to be more places to look for cracking urban art, good times.
